What To Expect
Worship at First United Methodist Church of Edmond
Our worship is from the liturgical tradition. Liturgy literally means “work of the people” and it includes shared written prayers, responsive readings and affirmations of faith that come from the variety of Christian tradition as well as those newly
written for our context today.
We sing hymns in a vibrant manner that is powerfully led by our music director, Andrew Schaeffer. Our choir is among the finest in Edmond and help to set
the tone of reverence for our worship together.
Our sermons are scripturally based on the Revised Common Lectionary.
Our main liturgical services are at 8:30 and 11:00 am on Sunday mornings.
During these times, we celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the
month and all are welcome to receive with us regardless of membership or
baptism.
We also offer a service entitled “Living Water” which is an alternate service of
Word and Table at 9:45 am. In this more intimate service, it is more relaxed in
that there is more interaction in an informal way during the sermon and the
prayer time. The sermons usually feature a video clip of a movie scene that
relates to the scripture or theme. The sermon is different than what is
offered at 8:30 and 11:00 am. We offer Holy Communion each week at this service.
We also offer a nursery at each worship service on Sunday morning.
There is a cry room near the sanctuary for parents with infants who may
need a little space or nursing mothers who would like some privacy.
We offer Children’s Church following the Children’s Sermon at the 11:00 am service.
